Reflections from Scandinavia
Now back in Scandinavia, I want to share some reflections about the festival BLOWOUT at Hillyer Art Space the 16th of June.
I luckily had the opportunity to enjoy the whole festival day and more or less all the performance art works presented at Hillyer Art Space this beautiful and sunny Saturday.
A very diverse program concerning the artists, the choices of formats and contents.
To present so different ideas and artistic practices in one day, I think was the strength.
The works where presented inside and outside, in the backyard of Hillyer Art Space.
It was a real blowout of a performance art ‘smorgasbord’, where among other things the guests could find; interactive beach festive, provocative conceptions, collaborations, situational rituals, atmospheric modulations, political burlesques, automobile lectures, representations, durational installations, children games and poetic movements.
For me as a Scandinavian artist, it was a great opportunity to take the temperature of the performance art scene in DC, as well as presenting my own work and meeting with other artists.
It was an intense day with generous atmosphere for inspiration, party, artistic exchange and new meetings.
I also want to highlight the initiator and curator Eames Armstrong, that with bright talent, energy and curiousness is a very important drive force and DIY artist in Washington DC.
Also big thanks to Soapbox, International Arts & Artists and Hillyer Art Space, for hosting this awesome event.
DC art scene can be proud of such vital and growing performance art community.
